Cher, Jon Batiste to Headline Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Music Legend Cher was revealed as the headliner for the iconic Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The news was unveiled during a special segment on NBC's Today Show this morning. Will perform during the parade on NBC and has a special place in the parade just before the grand finale: Santa's sleigh.
Louisiana musician Jon Batiste will also appear in the Thanksgiving Day broadcast.
Preparations for the Thanksgiving tradition are in full swing. Preps each year are said to begin almost instantly when the current year's parade wraps up in New York City.
The Macy's Parade is a cherished family tradition in my family. So much so, that I plan out the day around watching the parade. The parade brings back such great memories (and smells of Thanksgiving lunch) from my childhood.
What To Expect This Year
16 giant character balloons, including beloved favorites like Snoopy and SpongeBob SquarePants, will soar high above the bustling streets. There will also be 26 hand-crafted floats. In addition to the balloons and floats, the event will feature 32 novelty and heritage inflatables, representing a myriad of beloved characters from the world of entertainment and literature. 12 marching bands from across the nation are expected to march.
The Louisiana Connection
Louisiana marching bands have brought our vibrant musical style to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade since the early 1970s. There have been appearances by local high school marching bands as well. Their dynamic performances have captivated TV audiences nationwide.
