List of Mardi Gras Events Happening in Acadiana This Weekend

Mardi Gras festivities will kick into high gear this coming weekend in Acadiana with a variety of different events slated throughout Friday, February 2 through Sunday, February 4.

Whether you are looking for a traditional Mardi Gras parade where you can catch beads and other throws or you are looking for a parade where you can catch something homemade, Acadiana has plenty to offer you this weekend.

The first parade of the Mardi Gras season in Lafayette will happen Friday starting at 7 p.m. with the Krewe De Canailles. This krewe began in 2018 with a parade that features sustainable throws.

This year's theme for Krewe de Canailles is "Into the Shadowverse".  Quoting from the website shows that the parade will be magnificent,

You begin to transcend the boundary through space and time, you see a creature of parallel worlds, a character plucked from the pages of a forgotten history book, a cosmic entity from the far reaches of the universe. In this realm, creativity knows no bounds.

With the parade route in Downtown Lafayette, it follows a certain path. The parade begins on Polk Street between the Lafayette Science Museum and Parc International then turns right on Garfield, right on Taylor, left on Vermilion left on Lee Street, and then left on Cypress. It follows Cypress until it turns into Jefferson Street. The route then makes a left on Lee, a left on Main, and a right on Polk where the parade ends.

Scott Mardi Gras Parade

The Scott Mardi Gras parade will begin at 11 a.m. this Saturday, February 3. According to the Scott Business Association, the roads will be shut down as of 9:30 a.m.

This will be the 27th year that the Scott Mardi Gras Parade will roll. The Scott Business Association says the parade offers floats, music, throws and loads of family fun.

Krewe des Chiens Parade

The Krewe des Chiens parade will roll in Downtown Lafayette this Saturday, February 3 at noon.

The parade features costumed pooches walked, carried or in wagons along this parade route with lots of fun things for your whole family to see.

There are plenty of people who also have throws for participants at the parade. The parade will start at Parc Putnam and end at the corner of Johnston and Vermilion streets.

Krewe of Rio

The Krewe of Rio parade will happen this Saturday night at 6:30. The parade starts in Downtown Lafayette and goes all the way to Cajun Field.

A group of friends came together in 2005 to form the Krewe of Rio for a new type of Mardi Gras parade. Now the parade rolls two Saturdays before Mardi Gras day.

The krewe members and parade embodies the spirit of freedom that permeates Carnival in Rio De Janeiro. The parade follows the traditional parade route for Mardi Gras parades in Lafayette:

Courir de Mardi Gras at Vermilionville

A traditional Courir de Mardi Gras celebration will happen this Sunday, February 4 at Vermilionville.

The old fashioned Mardi Gras celebration will begin at 10 o'clock Sunday morning and will wrap up that afternoon at 4 o'clock.

They will show a special documentary screening, music and the traditional chicken run throughout Vermilionville. Vermilionville is located at 300 Fisher Road.

Rayne Mardi Gras

There will be a Mardi Gras parade and celebration this Saturday in Rayne.

The event starts at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon and wrap up at 8 in the evening.

The event is being held at Gossen Memorial Park at 206 Frog Festival Drive.
