Louisiana City Hall Evacuated Due to Decomposing Rodents in Walls
The city hall in New Orleans, Louisiana was evacuated earlier this week after some thought they were smelling gas in the building, well it turns out that it may have been dead rodents in the walls.
NOLA.com reports that the 75-year-old building that houses the city's government was evacuated on Wednesday, and when it came time to resume operations on Thursday, the stench was still there.
A portion of the building was closed off due to the stench, but day-to-day operations continued, including the city council meeting.
Initially, some thought that the smell might have been coming from discarded crawfish, but then rumors in the building started to circulate that the smell was coming from dead rodents in the building.
Pest control recently serviced the building and now some say their poison must have worked because the smell of decaying rodents was very evident.
The New Orleans Fire Department did respond to the call that there may have been a gas leak in the building, but they determined that the smell in the city hall was not gas.
Those in the building told NOLA.com that the smell was so strong that several rodents had had to die in the confines of the walls, it wasn't just a few.
If you recall, a few months ago New Orleans Police Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said that there were so many rats in the building that they were eating marijuana confiscated by officers. Now, many are saying that the old city hall building is just not safe to work in and could pose a health hazard.
Rodents will soon be on the move as temperatures begin to cool off, thus you may want to also consider pest control in the weeks ahead. As for the problem at the city hall in New Orleans, well seems like they may need more than just pest control.
