Louisiana Paradegoers Applaud How Police Secured Mardi Gras Parade Route

Mardi Gras season has come and gone, and now we are looking back on Carnival Season. If you attended any parades in Lafayette, Louisiana, you may have seen what the police department did to protect the parade route.

Sadly, after what transpired in New Orleans on New Year's Eve, police agencies across the state have been very proactive when protecting large crowds.

We've seen some agencies use various types of barriers to protect crowds, and the Lafayette Police Department did the same.

I noticed what the LPD did for the first Mardi Gras parade in Lafayette, and they continued this strategy for all parades. Police used transit buses to block major intersections in Lafayette along the parade route to better secure the route while protecting paradegoers.

A bus is a much more effective barrier than a barricade, and by placing large buses at intersections, not only block traffic, but they would also prevent anyone from driving a vehicle through a crowd.

I applaud LPD for using these assets to protect the parade route for Mardi Gras, and one photo shared on Facebook shows how the buses were used as barriers.
