Louisiana Woman Killed After Being Struck by a Vehicle in Acadiana
(Breaux Bridge, LA) - Louisiana State Police officials say a woman from Breaux Bridge was killed after being struck by a vehicle in St. Martin Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop I spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says it was a single-vehicle crash involving a vehicle hitting and killing a pedestrian.
In an additional case, Lafayette Police officials are investigating an early-morning Sunday crash on the Southwest Evangeline Thruway that has put a victim in the hospital in critical condition.
Concerning the Friday incident in St. Martin Parish, Gossen says 82-year-old Jannell Dore of Breaux Bridge was struck and killed around 3:30 Friday afternoon on Louisiana Highway 347 near Guidry Road.
This crash claimed the life of 82-year-old Jannell Dore of Breaux Bridge. Gossen says a truck was northbound on Louisiana Highway 347 near Guidry Road, and Dore was walking trying to cross over the highway, and she was hit in the northbound lane.
The St. Martin Parish coroner pronounced Dore dead at the scene.
The person driving the truck, according to officials, displayed no signs of impairment. Toxicology tests are pending, and the driver did take a breath test at the scene, but no alcohol was present.
Gossen says they have several reminders for anyone who is walking on a roadway:
- Always maintain a heightened level of awareness when walking on or near roadways.
- It is a good idea to wear reflective clothing no matter the time of day you are walking.
- Please remember to pay attention to the roadway and avoid any distractions while walking.
- Make sure you do not walk close to roadways.
- Traffic officials always remind walkers to walk against the flow of traffic.
- Nearly 70 percent of pedestrian deaths happen at night.
Gossen says that Troop I officials have investigated eight fatal crashes this year involving the same amount of deaths.
