(KMDL-FM) Once upon a time, before there was an Interstate 10 or an I-49, there was US Highway 90 if you were headed west from Scott to Lake Charles, that was your road. It served as the major east/west artery across southern Louisiana.

You could get on Highway 90 in New Orleans and take it all the way into Texas. And as you drove through rural Louisiana and the Historic Cajun Prairie,  you would encounter some unique experiences along the way. We are focusing on that part of the state for this narrative.

Earlier, we took a look at some interesting off-the-beaten-path places you might swing by if you traveled Highway 90 between Broussard (the Lafayette area) and Morgan City. You can see our suggestions for that stretch of the road below.

Here is the disclaimer, not every one of these stops is exactly located on Highway 90. You might have to go "into town" for a block or so, but generally these places are a quick jump off the roadway. We know how you "daddy drivers" can be when you're trying to make good time on the road.

Some of the places are legendary, so you've probably experienced them before, but some of the others might be new to you and could be the catalyst for a short day trip or afternoon road trip during the summer months.
