Louisiana Bracing for Rain and Storms Arriving Mid-Week
If you look at the temperature shading map for Louisiana early this morning you'll see that from I-10 to the Arkansas line just about the entire state is shaded in blue. Blue is the color the National Weather Service uses to denote cool temperatures and from Monroe to Mandeville and Crowley to Cottonport almost all of the state is showing a reading in the 30s as we start this first workweek of December.
The weather over the long Thanksgiving Weekend was about what we should expect for this time of year. We did get some passing showers and we did get that first "real cold front" to pass through the area. It seemed quite appropriate that we should enjoy some of the coldest temperatures of the season on the day the Atlantic Hurricane Season officially came to an end.
That should mean a little less apprehension when you look at the weather forecast for the next six months or so, but wintertime always brings a unique set of challenges just as the summer months do. No, we aren't looking at any major threats for frozen precipitation between now and December 31st, so you can pretty much cancel any plans for a "white Christmas" along the bayou.
But the next few days could present a bit of a challenge for parents who have to get kids to and from school and for anyone who might be scheduled to appear in or attend a Christmas or holiday gathering this week.
The graphic above from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles tells you a lot about what to expect this week. It does appear as though today and Tuesday will be nice. Showers will build into the area on Wednesday.
It does appear as though the threat of rain will be significant during the day on Wednesday, especially Wednesday night, and during the day on Thursday. Rain chances will taper off a little for Friday but unfortunately will build back up as move into Saturday.
So before you make plans for this weekend make sure you check back with us for changes in the forecast. Hopefully, the inclement weather will not be a factor in high school playoff football on Friday and the Sunbelt Championship Game in Lafayette on Saturday. This is in addition to any special holiday events or holiday parties that you might have on your schedule.
