(Lafayette, Louisiana)—If you are like most people in Lafayette, Louisiana, your house, garage, and yard are probably full of things you would love to get rid of, but you're not sure exactly how to go about that process.

Do you have old paint cans, furniture, carpet, and other items hanging around your home? It's time to finally be able to get rid of all of these things that are taking up space!

This year's Debris Drop Day will be held on Saturday, April 12.

What Is Debris Drop?

You sure can't fit an old 70s lounge chair in your trash can.

There are items that are not typically picked up if you put them out on your curb and some items are just too big to fit in your trash can.

An example of one of the items you should load up in your vehicle or trailer is an old basketball backboards that have the steel mounting poles.

Government officials will be in attendance, with handouts for you if you have other items that are not being accepted that day. The pamphlets will give instructions on how to get rid of those items.

Who Can Drop Off Items?

This Debris Drop is not for everyone. It is an event for people living in Lafayette and the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish.

Why Are These The Only People Allowed To Participate?

Only people who live within the city limits of Lafayette and the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish are eligible because they have actually paid for this service through their garbage bill.

Do I Have To Show Identification?

Because only residents of the incorporated areas of Lafayette and the city of Lafayette are allowed to drop off their items, you will need to bring picture identification with you showing your address.

Where Will The Debris Drop Locations Be Available?

There will be two locations to drop off items this year. The event will be held from 8 a.m. until noon at two parks.

Brown Park is located at 1234 E. Pont Des Mouton Road.

The Robicheaux Recreation Center is located at 1919 Eraste Landry Road.

  • Compressed Gas Cylinders
  • Batteries

For all items that you are going to be dropping off please know you will be required to help the volunteers offload them.
