Several media outlets are reporting that Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes is prepared to enter a guilty plea in the killings of 12 people in exchange for life in prison instead of facing the death penalty.

While Holmes' legal team may have offered up this plea deal before the court, the Associated Press says that the state (the prosecutor) has not yet accepted this offer. Perhaps with the amount of evidence they have stacked up against Holmes the state feels they they have a solid enough case to pursue the death penalty against Holmes.

The shooter entered an Aurora, CO theater on the night of July 20, 2012 and killed 12 people, while injuring 58 others. The state has charged Holmes with  24 counts of first-degree murder.
