Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival to be Turned Into a Concert Film
Jay-Z‘s star-studded Made in America music festival reportedly will get the big-screen treatment. The rap mogul has teamed up with ad executive Steve Stoute, producer Brian Grazer and director Ron Howard to create a concert film about the festival, which takes place in Philadelphia on Sept. 1 and 2.
According to the New York Post, Jay-Z will narrate the film as it captures some of the backstage preparations and performances from the music event. “The festival showcases 20 pre-eminent artists that speak to the new generation,” Grazer told the newspaper. “I am producing the film with Steve Stoute and Jay. Ron is directing. It is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective . . . how he puts the event together.”
Among the artists scheduled to appear at the two-day music extravaganza include Drake, Rita Ora, Calvin Harris, D’Angelo, Afrojack, Run-DMC, Odd Future, Pear Jam, Skrillex, Janelle Monae and Maybach Music Group artists Rick Ross, Wale and Philly native Meek Mill.
The last concert film that Jay-Z produced was his 2004 documentary ‘Fade to Black,’ which chronicled his sold-out Madison Square Garden concert in 2003 before his self-proclaimed retirement from the rap game.
“[Jay-Z] stayed the king for a very long time … I can’t even begin to explain how he is capable of remaining relevant,” said Grazer. “He is a phenom, like a musical Michael Jordan.”
Hopefully, the Made in America concert movie will be a slam dunk at the box office.
