
Motorcycle Passenger Killed In Johnston Street Crash In Lafayette
A Thursday afternoon traffic crash on Johnston Street has turned fatal after Lafayette Police confirmed that one person was killed.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, officers responded to the 6900 block of Johnston Street around 4:28 p.m. on June 25 after receiving reports of a major traffic collision.
Investigators say a pickup truck and a motorcycle collided while traveling in the southbound lanes of Johnston Street.

Authorities have identified the victim killed in Thursday afternoon's Johnston Street crash as 50-year-old Jolene Wheelock of Abbeville. Wheelock was a passenger on the motorcycle involved in the collision with a pickup truck in the southbound lanes of Johnston Street. The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
Passenger Pronounced Dead At The Scene
Police say the motorcycle was occupied by two people at the time of the crash.
The passenger riding on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim's identity, pending notification of next of kin.
The condition of the motorcycle operator and the driver of the pickup truck has not yet been released.
Investigation Remains Underway
Members of the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit remain on scene investigating what factors contributed to the collision.
