Judge Rules St. Martinville Mardi Gras Parade Will Not Roll
The St. Martinville Mardi Gras parade is definitely off. Today a federal judge said the Sheriff did not have a role in this legal matter. It is further evident that the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office is not a permitting agency and has no mandate to provide security for the City. A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said it it their understanding that the St. Martinville ordinance is unconstitutional and therefore all permits are invalid. The City of St. Martinville has withdrawn their request for help from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office. A statement from the Sheriff's Office states a hope that the Newcomers Club and the City of St. Martinville can work together to organize and develop a safe function going forward.
