
Lafayette Police Identify Victim in Fatal Hit and Run, Suspect Arrested
A tragic hit and run incident that occurred on Friday night in Lafayette has led to the death of the victim and the arrest of the suspect responsible. The victim, identified as 39-year-old male Daniel Ben from Lafayette, succumbed to his injuries following the crash according to an update release from authorities.
The Lafayette Police Department reported that the accident happened in the 100 block of Verot School Road. According to the preliminary on-scene investigation, the vehicle involved was traveling southbound in the center turn lane when it struck Ben, who was walking in the same lane. After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Ben unresponsive. Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene, and Ben was later transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Following an extensive investigation, the Lafayette Police Department identified a suspect in the case. Lani Richard, a 44-year-old female from Lafayette, has been arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. She faces charges of one count of felony hit and run.
