A local nonprofit that plays a critical role in controlling pet overpopulation is now facing an unexpected setback after a vehicle crashed into its building.

Spaynation, a low-cost spay and neuter clinic located off Bertrand Drive in Lafayette, confirmed that a client accidentally drove into part of the facility, damaging a section of its surgical area.

Thankfully, no people or animals were injured in the incident.

Damage Forces Temporary Shutdown Of Services

The impact has forced the clinic to temporarily halt normal operations, including scheduled surgeries and routine appointments.

That means delays not only for pet owners, but also for stray and community cats that rely on the organization for essential care. The disruption is also affecting foster animals connected to the Wildcat Foundation, which operates alongside the clinic.

Clinic leaders say repairs cannot begin immediately, as they are working with Lafayette Consolidated Government to get proper approvals before moving forward.

Mobile Unit Steps In, But Challenges Remain

In the meantime, Spaynation is shifting operations to its mobile surgical unit to continue providing limited services.

Male cats will be treated inside the clinic, while small dogs and cats will be handled in the mobile unit. However, the temporary setup comes with added costs and significantly reduces the number of animals they can serve each day.

Community Support Now Critical

Supporters of the organization say the impact goes far beyond just the damaged building.

Spaynation is a key resource for Lafayette and surrounding areas, helping reduce animal overpopulation while offering affordable care options.

Donations are being accepted to go towards the spay and neuter mission.
