Lafayette Weather – One More Nice Day Before the Rain Moves In

It wasn't the beautiful shirt sleeve springtime weather we were hoping for this past weekend but we did see enough breaks in the clouds to warm temperatures up enough to make being outside tolerable. Many around South Louisiana used the not-so-hot temperatures to spend time removing frost and freeze damaged plants from yards and gardens that were affected by February's big chill.

If you didn't get all of your yard and garden work done this weekend, you might still get that done today. In fact, we'd recommend that you try because weather conditions will not be as conducive for planting on Tuesday or Wednesday as an approaching storm system will increase the threat of rain and storms across the region.

With the exception of extreme southwestern Louisiana, today should be mostly sunny along the I-10 corridor. Temperatures will warm into the middle 70s for afternoon highs but conditions will start to go downhill the further into the day we go.

By tonight a slight risk of rain will increase to about a 60% probability as showers spread across South Louisiana. By Tuesday, rain chances will be about 80% for much of the forecast area. We don't anticipate a huge severe weather outbreak. Although the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the I-10 corridor from Lake Charles east through New Orleans in the "marginal risk" zone for severe storms to develop.

That "marginal risk" of severe storms will spread over most of the state by the middle of the week. With the threat of strong to severe storms possible from Shreveport south to Lake Charles and then all points east including a large portion of southwest Mississippi.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service Office in Lake Charles are keeping a decent threat of rain in the forecast for almost all of the workweek. Rain chances right now will be in the 50% to 60% range on Thursday with the threat of rain finally beginning to taper off during the day on Friday.
