
Lafayette Residents On Edge After Suspect Seen Trying House And Car Doors On Camera
A Lafayette neighborhood is raising concerns about overnight crime after surveillance footage captured a suspect allegedly attempting to enter both vehicles and a home during the early morning hours.
Suspect Caught On Doorbell Camera In Lafayette
According to a post shared by Lafayette Crime Stoppers and the Lafayette Police Department, the incident happened on May 18, 2026, around 3:41 a.m. on Woodvale Avenue. Authorities say an unknown suspect was captured on a residential doorbell camera attempting to enter a vehicle before also trying to access a residence.
Police released an image of the suspect and are asking anyone who may recognize the individual to come forward.

Residents React To Bold Attempt
The footage quickly made rounds on social media, where many residents expressed concern over the suspect appearing comfortable enough to approach both vehicles and the home itself.
Several commenters pointed out that the suspect did not appear startled by lights or cameras.
“One thing is checking car doors,” one commenter wrote. “Trying the house door too is terrifying.”

Others debated home security measures, including cameras, alarms, dogs, motion lights, and firearm laws in Louisiana.
A number of residents also referenced recent local incidents involving homeowners confronting suspected burglars, including a Lafayette-area case where a homeowner was reportedly shot after confronting people outside his property.
Crime Concerns Continue Across Acadiana
The incident comes amid growing concerns from residents across Acadiana who say property crimes and overnight vehicle burglaries have become increasingly common.
Many commenters urged neighbors to double-check locks before bed and avoid leaving valuables inside vehicles.
Others noted how common security cameras have become, yet suspects still appear willing to take risks.
Police have not said whether this incident is connected to any other recent burglaries or attempted break-ins in the Lafayette area.
The investigation remains ongoing.
