Thousands of people put their porch light on when 6-year-old Darren Baysore asked them to. He requested that people do so in a way to honor his dad who died while serving our country in Afghanistan.

When Staff Sergeant Thomas Baysore was deployed overseas to serve our country, he told his little boy to send messages to the moon at night, and that would be their way of communicating. On the day Darren learned of his father's death, his mother told him that his dad would split time between heaven and the moon. So Darren asked his mom if they could turn their front porch light on so his dad could see it shining.

To mark the one year anniversary death of his dad, little Darren asked the world to turn their porch lights on so that his dad could see them shining. And that's precisely what people did, and thanks to social media these days Darren got to see first hand how many people appreciate the sacrifice his dad made for all of us.

Darren and his mom thanked all who turned their porch lights on as it brought back the smile that had been missing for quite some time.
