SCOTT, La. — Two Acadiana parents have been arrested after Scott Police say they knew their 4-year-old child had ingested a THC gummy but left the child with another juvenile while they attended an LSU football game.

Mary Cormier, 36, and David Butt, 34, were arrested following an investigation that began September 13, according to the Scott Police Department.

Police say officers learned that the 4-year-old had ingested a THC gummy and that the parents were aware of what had happened.

Instead of seeking medical attention for the child, investigators allege Cormier and Butt left the 4-year-old in the care of another juvenile and went to the LSU football game.

The investigation and arrests come as accidental ingestion of cannabis edibles continues to raise concerns because products such as gummies can resemble ordinary candy, particularly to young children.
