A Michigan man set fire to a gas pump after attempting to kill a spider.

Surveillance video shows the man as he notices the 8-legged critter on his gas tank while pumping gas. He then reaches into his pocket and grabs his cigarette lighter to "scare" the spider away.

The only problem is (as MOST people know) gas and fire don't mix—at all.

Almost instantly the pump was engulfed in flames as the man scrambled to put the fire out.

Luckily the man was able to locate a nearby fire extinguisher and put the fire out. He told police that he is deathly afraid of spiders, so when he spotted one on his gas tank, he went for his lighter in an effort to "get rid of it."

Mobil employee Susan Adams watched the whole thing go down.

He didn’t have a cigarette. He didn’t have anything on him. All of a sudden I look out and I see flames.

Adams acted fast, hitting the gas automatic stop button, and calling the fire department. The man's vehicle had little damage, but the gas pump was destroyed by the fire.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. The man even stopped by the next day to fill up.
