A Muscular Dystrophy Camp fundraising festival is coming to Scott on March 21, 2020.

The Annual Chelbug Fest honors the legacy of Chelsea Marie Carriere while raising funds for Camp Starlite, a camp for children with Muscular Dystrophy.

Camp Starlite (formerly Rainbow Camp) provides an opportunity for kids with Muscular Dystrophy to attend camp and be kids. A real camp, with cabins and games and football and swimming. A chance for these kids to be kids. And a chance for their caregivers to get a break. Camp Starlite is a win/win for everyone.

This camp is so incredibly important to the kids as it gives them a week to be amongst peers that can relate to them, gives them time to be independent from their primary caregivers, and allows them to experience fun and adventure like never before. They form life long friendships, confidence, and the ability to be themselves around others who experience life in similar ways that they do. - Chelbug Fest

Even though there are several volunteers to staff the camp and different organizations (like the Lafayette Fire Department) who volunteer to cook for a day, Camp Starlite isn't free. It's events like Chelbug Fest that help raise money for the camp to operate. Chelbug Fest raises money to send items like shower chairs, custom showers, other special-needs items, even the footballs used in the game. The festival also helps to fund local families with expenses due to MD.

Chelbug Fest will be held on Lions Club Road in Scott, beginning at 7:30am. It will feature music, a chili cook-off, auctions, door prizes, raffles and lots of food. It is a family-friendly, fun event that raises money for a great cause. Bring the kids to show them what giving back is all about.
