Graphic Video Showing Aftermath of New Orleans Shooting Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

We've seen the headlines and the statistics, but the aftermath of a recent fatal shooting in New Orleans has some viewers shaken to their core.

I don't want to sit here and write another story about another shooting in New Orleans. I will be very upfront with you and tell you that New Orleans is a city that has always been a quick two hours away from me as someone who grew up in Lafayette—so it's basically an extension of what I refer to as "home."

But I don't live in New Orleans. I don't have to deal with brazen crime that takes place in broad daylight. I don't have to worry about my windows being smashed out if I feel like taking a walk in the park near my home. And I definitely don't ever feel like semi-automatic gunshots will ring out if I'm hanging on my porch or grilling on my back patio.

While I've never actually lived in New Orleans, I've definitely put my roots down in the city through hundreds of gigs, dozens of Saints games as a season ticket holder (and most recently as the official VIP pregame DJ), and some of my best friendships.

With that said, I will still never love or understand New Orleans in the way that residents who live their day-to-day experience the city. I will also never understand how frustrated or conflicted those residents are with the recent uptick in crime.

A report of double shooting last night in the city read like every single one before it. According to Fox 8, it happened in the 1900 block of Hendee Street in the Fischer Development Neighborhood. A 16-year-old male was declared dead on the scene and police found a 17-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound.

The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment, but what I realized when I saw the report was that I saw the aftermath just hours before that and it literally sent chills down my spine. The video looked like it was either filmed on someone's phone or captured on one of those video doorbell cameras.

I'm warning you again that this video doesn't show anyone being shot or bleeding, but just the overall graphic nature of the chaotic scene coupled with the absolute fear and loss of innocence heard in the screams is enough to stop you wherever you may be sitting or standing in this very moment.

The video was posted by @empoweryounola and shared by @reggieart—two Instagram accounts that are tapped into the local New Orleans community.

According to comments one of the girls we see in the video seems to be the teenage girl who was reportedly hit according to Fox 8, but the fear I heard from those young women will stick with me forever.

While many New Orleans residents have been critical of the current administration, others are simply figuring out ways to stand up for their community regardless of the lack of policing or shorthandedness of local law enforcement.

As someone who loves the city, my heart breaks for NOLA—even if it's two hours away.
