After months of anticipation and community concerns, The Yard Goat proudly announced the opening of its extended parking area over the weekend. This move addresses the parking woes that have plagued the popular establishment and its neighbors since its grand opening.

Tucked away off Bertrand Drive near Johnston Street, The Yard Goat has quickly become a favorite spot for locals. It offers a unique German-style beer garden experience. However, its rapid rise in popularity led to significant parking issues, which spilled over into nearby residential streets and caused frustration among residents.

Brian Harrison, a longtime resident of Holden Heights, expressed his relief at the new development. "I’m about as close as you can get to the Yard Goat. Legends had some overflow but nothing blocking my street. On prime nights, I can barely fit my truck on the street. Street parking is one thing, but parking on my grass when it's wet can’t keep happening. Hopefully, the new parking lot helps," he said.

The Yard Goat’s new parking lot adds over 200 spaces to the area, alleviating much of the overflow that has troubled residents. Rusty White, owner of The Yard Goat, emphasized the importance of resolving these issues promptly. "I didn't know the parking would be as much of a problem, or we would have just done all that at one time. As soon as we saw the issues, we immediately started construction on it," White explained.

A notable feature of the new lot is its innovative use of GrassGuard technology. This cutting-edge system involves a hard, plastic mesh that allows grass to grow through it, providing a sturdy and environmentally friendly parking surface. GrassGuard helps avoid common drainage issues associated with traditional asphalt or concrete, and its installation was significantly quicker.

The Yard Goat’s Facebook page celebrated the opening with a message to patrons: "OUR NEW PARKING LOT IS NOW OPEN!!!! Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding during our construction phase of this new parking lot. We now have over 200 spaces!!! Please help out and park within the lines of the numbered spaces so that we can have the maximum number of spots available at all times."

This development is expected to not only improve parking but also help maintain the peace and quiet of the Holden Heights neighborhood. Jamie Boudreaux, Chief Communications Officer for Lafayette Consolidated Government, highlighted the city's ongoing efforts to balance the needs of businesses and residents. "LCG is always working to make sure that businesses and residents can enjoy the spaces in which they operate. That’s why these codes are in place. We want to create good environments for everybody," Boudreaux stated.

With the additional parking now in place, The Yard Goat and its neighbors can look forward to a more harmonious coexistence, allowing everyone to enjoy our local social scene in Lafayette without the previous frustrations.
