Opelousas Shelter Opens Doors To Citizens From Other Cities

The city of Opelousas has opened a shelter for those that have been displaced due to recent floods.

The shelter is located in the city's Civic Center and the doors are open to anyone that needs a place to go. City Officials have opened their doors to all citizens, and not to just those that reside within Opelousas.

According to KATC, the shelter is prepared to hold up to 150 people. And with that many people expected, the shelter says they need the following items:

• Plastic totes
• Gallon Ziplocs
• Trash bags (contractor size)
• Work gloves
• First aid kits
• Towels
• Rags
• Bleach
• Underwear
• Socks
• School supplies
• School uniforms
• Towels

You can drop off donations at the Civic Center: 1638 Creswell Lane. Remember, I-49 North is being used a detour route off of I-10, therefore you may experience heavy traffic if you're traveling to Opelousas.
