Parent Arrested, Accused of Showing Up on Opelousas High Campus to Fight With Student
A parent was arrested after an altercation with a student on the campus of Opelousas High School.
According to Opelousas Police Chief Martin McClendon, a School Resource Officer was responding to multiple physical altercations between numerous groups of students at Opelousas High School around 1 p.m. on Monday (Sep. 26).
McClendon said that once the SRO had the fights under control, it was brought to their attention that a parent was on campus and engaged in a physical altercation with a student.
According to The Advocate, the student involved in the confrontation reportedly had "ongoing issues" with a child of the parent; who failed to check in with the front office before fighting her child's alleged adversary on the high school campus.
Public reactions were mixed on social media, with some parents denouncing the mother's behavior while others suggested she was taking matters into "her own hands" due to the situation being mishandled by the school.
Kayla R. Bias (37) of Opelousas was arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on charges of unlawful disruption of the operation of school and disturbing the peace by fighting.
