This is What Caused That Fire and Explosion at Home in Scott

UPDATE (Friday, April 9): Fire investigators say the fire was electrical and it was caused from an exterior structure connected to the home.

Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier also expressed thanks to the people of the neighborhood who gave firefighters drinking water while they battled the blaze and were on scene for several hours.

Original Story (Wednesday, April 7): A home in the 100 block of Lloyd Road in Scott went up in flames Tuesday night, causing that home to be a total loss and the neighboring home to suffer moderate damage.

In a press release, Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier says his crew answered the call to find the home to engulfed in flames, and with the high winds, the fire spread to a neighboring home. Firefighters from Duson, Judice, and Lafayette were needed to join in as they not only had to fight the engulfed home but also contain the fire at the neighboring home where the fire had spread to that person's attic.

Unfortunately, a cat in the initial home died. Fortunately, the occupant of the home was able to escape uninjured.

The elderly person in the neighboring home is hearing impaired and was rescued by a neighbor who used a large rock to get inside the home and evacuate that person.

Chief Sonnier says they are still trying to figure out the exact cause of the accidental fire.
