Could European style restrooms be a fixture in Downtown Lafayette? The Lafayette Downtown Development Authority is looking to add more public restrooms in Parc San Souci and they could have a different look.

The group has recognized the need for more public restrooms in the downtown district and there are two options. One, improve and/or add more restrooms to the parking tower on Vermillion Street or construct these European style restrooms in the park.

A DDA spokesperson says that the European style restrooms would be much safer in the park than adding more to the parking garage. They note that you can see when the restroom is occupied because of the openings on the bottom of the facility.

On the other hand, you never really know who is in a more traditional restroom if a door is closed. Safety is their primary concern here.

How much would such a restroom like this cost? According to the report on KATC, it would be close to $200,000.
