Radio Legend Don Imus Passes Away At 79
Don Imus was an icon. He spent nearly 50 years on the radio. Everyone in my line of work knows his name. Imus spent most of his career on New York City airwaves. He won for Marconi awards and was inducted into the National Association of broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1996.
Imus was no stranger to controversy and sometimes got himself into hot water, most notably in 2007. He made an unflattering reference to the members of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. CBS and MSNBC terminated his contracts. Imus returned it to the airwaves on WABC until his retirement last year. Imus was a noted philanthropist. His family Ran the Imus Ranch For seriously ill children. He passed away Friday in College Station, Texas.
