Saints general manager, Mickey Loomis, says he was surprised to hear that former Saints tight end Benjamin Watson maybe looking to return to the NFL.

Back in December, Watson announced his retirement from the NFL after a 14 year career. He played for the Saints from 2013-2015, and returned for the 2018 season.

Last season, he had 35 catches for 400 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games with the Saints, but he missed the NFC Championship due to an illness.

Loomis was asked about Watson's possible return to the league Monday:

Ben has been a real good player for a lot of years,” Loomis said Monday during a news conference. "He’s a great guy for any team, for our team, in the locker room. I was a little surprised at that, yes.

He wouldn't discuss Watson's possible return to the Saints saying, “We’ll just have to wait and see what happens."
