Did Rihanna Make Racial Slurs Against Chris Brown’s Girlfriend?
We hope this isn’t true, but if it is — not cool, Rihanna! After tweeting a photo of a package of rice cakes adorned with sunglasses and earrings, many are saying RiRi is taking potshots at Chris Brown‘s half-Vietnamese girlfriend, Karrueche Tran.
Rihanna tweeted the photo on the left with the caption, “Ima make you my b—-.” (Compare it to this recent photo of Tran wearing similar accessories.) The line is a lyric from Rihanna’s infamous ‘Birthday Cake’ remix, on which RiRi duetted with Brown. In the same song, Rihanna sings that she is “sweeter than a rice cake.”
For those who don’t know, “rice cake” is commonly used as a racial epithet towards women of Asian descent. Rihanna uses “birthday cake” as a euphemism for her own, er, lady bits, so it’s not overreaching to say that she’s using “rice cake” as a reference to Tran’s.
We’re hoping that this is all a great big misunderstanding, but the evidence suggests otherwise. It’s especially unfortunate considering that Rihanna herself is no stranger to racism from others.
In the event that this is, in fact, true, this will mark the second time in just a few weeks that the ‘We Found Love’ singer has taken jabs at people over Twitter (remember when she traded words with a fan via the social networking site?). Rihanna’s better than this — and her fans deserve better than this.
