Rihanna Walks Out of Interview After Being Asked About Her Love Life
Rihanna makes headlines as much for her personal life as she does for her work, if not more — but that doesn’t mean she likes it. When an interviewer on an Australian morning show asked the ‘We Found Love’ a relatively innocuous question, the singer abruptly got up and walked out.
In Sydney to promote her upcoming film, ‘Battleship,’ Rihanna was relatively warm and open at first. She admitted that she wasn’t feeling well the night before and was more than happy to gush about her aliens-in-the-ocean flick, as well as potentially portraying Whitney Houston. However, things got ugly fast when host Natalie Barr asked RiRi about the rumors regarding her love life.
The show pointed out (not during the interview) that Rihanna’s ex — and possible current hookup — Chris Brown was also in Australia, and Barr asked Rihanna, “You talked recently about how difficult it is finding love in general. How frustrating is it when you’re linked to another Hollywood star even if you’ve barely met them?” This was a pretty softball question and didn’t delve into any specifics. It sounded like the journo was merely asking Rihanna more so about the difficulties that come with superstardom — but then again, it could have been an indirect way of addressing the Ashton Kutcher rumors. So what did Rihanna say?
With a slight eye roll, scowl and suck of her teeth, Rihanna replied curtly, “Very frustrating.” She smirked and added, “Almost as frustrating as being asked about it.” Barr then asked, “You don’t like going there?” Rihanna answered with a question of her own: “I mean, what’s the point?” Yikes!
Barr replied, “Well, people are interested in you because you’re a big star.” Rihanna remained unmoved and a bit snide. “They are! They’re interested in a lot of things that don’t matter or shouldn’t matter.”
The interview ended right there. While we don’t see footage of RiRi walking out, the show revealed that that’s what went down. Barr revealed that in film press tours, “They manage those interviews. If you ask nice questions about the movie, that’s fine, but if you venture into personal territory, they don’t like it.” Fair enough, but if Barr knew that going in, why would she bother?
Do you think the interviewer was out of line or that Rihanna could have handled the situation better? Sound off in the comments!
