New Rouses Market At Johnston & Duhon In Lafayette, LA Opening Today [VIDEO]

You've been waiting—and it's finally here. Today at 8am, Rouses opens the doors to their newest location in Lafayette at 6136 Johnston St.

Just past the Mall of Acadiana near Duhon Rd. this will be Rouses third store in the Lafayette area. While the new location shares a lot of the same great qualities as all of the other Rouses locations, the floor plan and the aesthetic detail in the wood and brick—not to mention the outdoor terrace—sets it apart from all the rest.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention two words: Mongolian Grill

Just like the locations on Bertrand and in Youngsville, this Rouses will offer a wide array of produce, meat, seafood, organic products, bulk items, wines, fresh blooms and many other items that are all fresh and locally sourced, in addition to deli-items, chef-inspired meals, and Rouses signature specialties that are ready to cook and ready to eat.

Speaking with Donny Rouse—a graduate of the Louisiana at Lafayette and the third generation to run his family business—he detailed how the design of every store is personal and carefully thought out with the consumer experience in mind—and of course, LOCAL.

You can't turn your head in Rouses and not see a photo, or a sign showcasing the farmers, fisherman, trappers, and their respective cities that provide the great local products available at every Rouses market.

I had the chance to preview the new Johnston Street location and immediately the brick work is what caught my eye. I instantly flashed back to my childhood years when I would grocery shop with my mother at the supermarket.

Through the years, supermarkets and other grocery stores alike have evolved, but its like Donny went back to a "hometown" market feel with brick work that I have a feeling will be the first thing a lot of others connect with as well.

Another thing I noticed on the personal tour is that nearly every single employee who crossed my path greeted me with a genuine: "Welcome to Rouses!" They even have different cheers in each department!
