Second Inmate Dies at Oakdale Federal Lockup
The Federal Bureau of Prisons has noted that another inmate detained at the Federal Correctional Institution in Oakdale has died from COVID-19. Nicholas Rodriquez was transported to a local hospital on March 25th after running a high fever and reported shortness of breath. He later tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Authorities did note that Rodriquez who was serving a sentence handed down by the Northern District of California did have long-term, pre-existing medical conditions. His death was confirmed by prison officials yesterday.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website the Oakdale facility currently has 15 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Eleven of those cases are reported to be among the inmate population and the other four cases are reported to be among staffers at the facility.
The FBoP website suggests that the facility is now into Phase 5 of its action plan to combat the spread of the disease. That plan does include quarantine and isolation of those suspected of having come in contact with persons carrying the virus.
As part of that plan, inmates are confined to their cells for at least the next two weeks as part of the heightened state of the lockdown at the facility. Also, all visitation to the facility has been suspended until further notice.
