We have certainly had our share of wet weekends across South Louisiana during the month of April. This upcoming weekend promises to bring a very similar forecast to what we experienced last weekend. That means a large probability of rain and a significant threat for severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of Louisiana in the slight risk category for severe weather on Saturday. A large portion of the state that includes, Shreveport, Monroe, and Alexandria has been placed in the enhanced zone for severe weather.

The weather maker that is forecast to kick up all of these strong storms and heavy rains is a large low-pressure system combined with a cold front. That system is currently bringing blizzard conditions across the Great Plains and into the Midwest.

The threat of severe storms has already forced the postponement of two events scheduled for Saturday. Mommy and Me's Kidsfest has been moved to May 11th in Parc San Souci while a makeup date for the St. Landry Evangeline United Way Yard Bird Cook-Off has yet to be announced.

We can expect forecasters to fine tune this forecast tomorrow and we'll have a better idea of the timing on when we can expect the worst of the weather in our area. In the meantime, it would be a good idea to discuss severe weather safety with your family just in case the need arises.
