Shaking Out the Good Stuff – Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Acadiana

If you are fortunate enough to have in your family a family member that you can call a big brother or a big sister then you are leading a charmed life. The influence that an older sibling can have on a young sibling is immeasurable. However, there are some families in South Louisiana where an older family member of the same sex is not available and that's why Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Acadiana are getting the "Shaking out the Good Stuff" spotlight from Morton Salt Weeks Island today.

Each week the community-minded crew at Morton Salt's Weeks Island facility asks us to shine the spotlight on an individual or organization that is making our community better. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Acadiana does that through their one-to-one mentoring program.

Studies have shown that mentored youth perform better in school. They have better attendance in school too. And the kids themselves say they have more confidence to approach their studies and go about their day. And Big Brothers and Big Sisters help foster that improvement and confidence one child at a time.
