A New Iberia man was surprised by a snake that was climbing a brick wall, just inches away from slithering into his home.

A photo of what appeared to be a rat snake fully extended up the corner of a wall was posted to social media by the sister of a man who didn't even noticed the reptile until it was almost in his house.

The snake had to be at least four feet long as it took up at least half the length of the front door in the photo. According to the sister of the man who saw the snake, her brother didn't even realize the snake was under his carport until he was headed back inside after having a smoke.

Encountering a snake slithering up your front door wall can be pretty freaky, but no worries, we've got you covered on what to do in such a situation. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Stay chill

Take a deep breath and try to stay calm. Panicking will only make things more chaotic, and nobody wants that.

Keep your distance

It's best to give the snake some space. They're more scared of you than you are of them (hopefully). So, keep a safe distance to avoid any unexpected surprises.

Hands off policy

This is a strict "no-touch" zone. Don't even think about touching the snake, even if you're feeling adventurous. Snakes can be quite bitey if they feel threatened, so let's avoid any unnecessary drama, shall we?

Safety first

If the snake is hanging out near your front door, it might be wise to use a different entrance until the situation is resolved. Better safe than sorry, right?

Spy game

If you're feeling brave, try to identify the snake from a distance. Just make sure you don't get too close. Knowing its species can help you figure out if it's venomous or harmless. But seriously, don't get too close.

Dial the experts

This is where you bring in the pros. Give a local wildlife control or snake removal service a call, and let them handle the snake whispering. They're trained to deal with these slithery situations, so let them work their magic.

Lock it down

While you wait for the experts to arrive, make sure your front door is securely closed. We don't want any uninvited reptile guests wandering inside, do we?

Time to learn

Take this opportunity to expand your snake knowledge. Research the snakes in your area, their habits, and which ones are venomous. It'll help you feel more confident and prepared for future encounters.

Remember, snakes in New Iberia and beyond are just doing their thing and trying to get by. By following these simple tips, you can handle the situation calmly and get that snake on its way without any unnecessary snake-wrangling adventures.

Stay cool, y'all!
