The National Weather Service is monitoring the freezing line this morning. South of that line in Louisiana it's just rain but north of it there could be ice.
A recent video capturing the icy and snow-covered conditions on I-49 in North Louisiana serves as an important reminder of the importance of heeding state officials' advice to avoid traveling during icy or snowy conditions. Not only do we have less experience driving in these icy conditions we also do not drive vehicles with the proper snow tires making traveling during this time extremely dangerous.
A 100-car-pile up in Fort Worth, TX resulted in at least five fatalities and multiple injuries due to icy road conditions. A heroic moment from the rescue efforts for the accident came when a firefighter rescued a dog that was trapped inside of a vehicle involved in the accident.
The information says that the head of each agency is responsible for deciding which essential personnel need to either remain on duty or report to an alternate site.
Well, it's pretty simple. We aren't used to it. Down south we rarely see temperatures like this. (which is why you're SOOOOOO cold today) And since we don't see temperatures like this too often, we also don't exactly know how to act in it ... or drive in it.
