The Class of 2020 will be the class that has the best reunions in the coming years. The reason I think this is because the Class of 2020 has gotten so hosed by this coronavirus pandemic that it will take decades for class members to get all of the frustration of a senior year gone wrong out of their psyche.

Many colleges and universities in the state have already announced plans to cancel commencement ceremonies this spring. In many cases, students will be given the option of sitting in on other commencement ceremonies later in the year.

School leaders in Iberia Parish are creating their own plans on how to deal with the Class of 2020 and their well-deserved commencement ceremonies. The Iberia Parish School Board announced yesterday a tentative graduation date for students in the parish.

The tentative dates are July 13-17. Obviously, there are still more questions than answers concerning those dates. For example, will the state and local governments allow a gathering of that magnitude at that time? That certainly will pay a part in whether or not ceremonies can be held on those rescheduled dates.

Parents and students with questions and concerns about graduation or how the 2019-2020 school year grading process will be handled are encouraged to contact their particular school. You can also find out more by visiting the Iberia Parish Schools website.
