Man Who Thought Coronavirus Was 'Hoax' Dies After 'COVID Party'

A 30-year-old patient died in San Antonio last week after attending a 'COVID party.'

"I think I made a mistake. I thought this was a hoax, but it's not."

According to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, those were the final words of a Texas man who died after admitting to being present at a party hosted by someone diagnosed with coronavirus.

Dr. Jane Appleby is the chief medical officer at both Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children's Hospital and says these parties are very real and just as dangerous as they sound.

The thought is people get together to see if the virus is real and if anyone gets infected

Appleby can't share the identity of the patient due to HIPAA laws but wants people to understand that she isn't sharing this story to scare anyone, but rather wants people to understand how this virus can affect anyone, regardless of age or the fact that they may be in "good health."

There are more cases popping up in people in their 20s and 30s, and while many can be treated and discharged, others become seriously ill.

Like most doctors, Appleby encourages the public to wear a mask to help stop the spread and to stay home as much as possible.

It's also probably a good idea to avoid attending any "COVID parties."
