The rule change that came after the historic non-call was used for the first time ever in NFL history during the Hall of Fame Game.

Last night (8/1) was the kick-off to preseason in the NFL. The Hall of Fame Game was between the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Falcons. During said game, a play came about that pass interference was called. The call was challenged, making it the first pass interference challenge in NFL history.

Coaches can challenge those calls in the first 28 minutes of each half. In the final two minutes of each half, those calls will be subject to a booth review.

While this wasn't the same instance of the referees NOT calling pass interference and a flag being thrown, this is still a huge step in (what could be) the right direction.
