Tip From True Crime TV Show Solves Cold Case Murder in Kenner

As much as people trash television shows these days, it's good to know that some of these programs really can do some good in the world today. If you've ever watched the popular Netflix series "Unsolved Mysteries", you know that they ask for help from the public to get information about crimes. The official site claims that the true-crime series has "Real cases of perplexing disappearances, shocking murders and paranormal encounters that fuel this gripping revival of the iconic documentary series." The show has run on and off on several networks from 1987 through today, and has solved hundreds of cases.

Recently, the show aired a story on an 11-year-old double murder case from 2010 in Kenner. According to the Kenner police department, via WWL TV, Hermania Ellsworth and Charles Davis were found shot to death in a car that had crashed in the 700 block of Farrar Avenue in Kenner. Their three-year-old son was in the backseat, and survived the crash, but was badly injured.

A couple of weeks later Herbert Glass and Lynette Williams were found floating in Lake Pontchartrain after being shot. Police officials thought the two crimes might be related because the second couple resided in the 700 block of Farrar Avenue as well. The cases went cold but were reopened last month when producers for the "Unsolved Mysteries" show called Kenner PD with a tip about 35-year-old Dernell Nelson of LaPlace.

Nelson has since been arrested on two counts of first-degree murder, which was connected by DNA and other evidence gathered by police. But Kenner Police are saying that if anyone else has information connected to the crimes they should call (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
