Today marks the 26th anniversary of the death of singer, songwriter, model, actress and inspiration Selena Quintanilla-Perrez. Selena was one of the most popular Mexican-American entertainers of popular times.

Selena helped bring Latin music into the mainstream music scene. She was a bold, vivacious fashionista who capture the world with her style and music.

Selena's joint efforts with MAC cosmetics made her line of cosmetics the best-selling cosmetics line in history.

Often referred to as the "Tejano Madonna", Selena's life was cut short after she was shot and killed on March 31, 1995, by Yolanda Saldivar, her business manager and friend. Selena met Saldivar at her room at the Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas demanding financial statements. Saldivar shot Selena in the back. Selena was pronounced dead on arrival at Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital 16 days before her 24th birthday. She was only 23.

Selena's last concert was on February 26, 1995, at the Houston Astrodome in Texas in front of a sold-out crowd of 66,994, breaking her own attendance record. The concert was televised live on Univision. Selena's appearance in the Houston Astrodome outsold legendary concerts by Vince Gill, Reba Mcentire and George Strait.

Selena Live! The Last Concert was released by EMI Latin on March 27, 2001.

Fans can now visit The Selena Museum located at 5410 Leopard St. in Corpus Christi, Texas. The museum was built by the Quintanilla family to honor their daughter's music, life and legacy.

Visitors see Selena's stage costumes, memorabilia, even her red Porsche. Admission is only $5 for adults. Kids (Ages 4-12) only $3. The museum is open weekdays 10 am-4 pm. Closed on weekends. The museum also closes on March 31, the anniversary of Selena's death.
