LSU’s football team will soon begin their 2012-13 season, but will be forced to do so without the services of star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu.

LSU head coach Les Miles hosted a surprise press conference today to announce Mathieu’s departure from the team. Miles reported the reason for the dismissal was a breaking of team/school rules, though he would not disclose details.

The junior cornerback famously nicknamed the “Honey Badger” was a consensus All-American in 2011, and is widely considered one of the best players in college football.

Stay tuned for updates as more details become available.
