Folks from Opelousas, Eunice, and Lafayette still showed up on the parade routes decked out in their best Mardi Gras attire, ready to catch beads and make memories.

Ash Wednesday falls on March 5th this year and kicks off the Catholic liturgical season of Lent, which ends on Easter Sunday, April 17th.

South Louisiana has a strong Catholic heritage, and many local business owners add special Lent menu items that omit meat, especially on Fridays. Lucky for us, we have some of the best seafood options in the country, so skipping meat and opting for lighter options like shrimp or catfish isn't all that bad.

One locally loved restaurant in Lafayette has added a tasty Lent-friendly menu option for those looking to skip the meat on Fridays.

Lafayette Restaurant Serving Sushi Burritos During Lent

Viva La Waffle announced a new addition to their menu that even those not observing Lent will want to give a try, sushi burritos.

Imagine your favorite sushi roll but in a much larger portable handheld version. No chopsticks needed.

Sushiritos feature fried Gulf shrimp, samurai sauce, cucumber, cream cheese, avocado, and sushi sauce. Not feeling a burrito? No problem—you can also order the Sushi bowl, which includes all the delicious toppings minus the wrap.

If you are looking for a delicious Lent-friendly lunch or dinner option, Viva La Waffle has got you covered with their Sushirito.
