If you could rename Waitr, what would you call it?

Waitr is a Lafayette-based food service that has almost become a verb at this point—especially when it comes to having food from your favorite restaurants delivered. If you or someone you know has ever said the words: "we'll just Waitr for dinner tonight" then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Well, soon you may have to use another name to describe whatever cravings you have delivered as Waitr has plans for a name change as part of a complete corporate rebranding initiative.

According to a report from The Daily Advertiser, Waitr dropped a press release on Thursday explaining the reason behind the rebrand which is set to happen within "the next 12 to 18 months."

This decision to rebrand will better reflect our identity and business operations as we continue our expansion into new verticals outside of the food delivery segment and should improve and enhance our marketing and public relations synergies.

Waitr CEO and chairman Carl Grimstad says his team is looking for a name that better reflects where they currently are as a company but also where they plan to go as they continue to grow and evolve in the long term.

Our three core constituents provide us with a myriad of commercial opportunities. We are currently interviewing branding firms with the goal to identify and settle on a corporate name and brand that unifies our current service offerings and better reflects our long-term business strategy.

Back in March 2020, Waitr pivoted toward grocery delivery out of necessity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in November began offering alcohol delivery in select markets. Waitr has also recently discussed a partnership for payment and delivery for cannabis dispensaries.

Waitr was started in Lake Charles back in 2013 but has since expanded throughout more than 800 cities nationwide. See the full story via The Daily Advertiser here.
