Where Can You Celebrate Nude Recreation Week in Louisiana

With temperatures across Louisiana from Lake Charles to Shreveport and Monroe to Venice expected to approach triple-digits today the concept of wearing fewer clothes might seem mighty appealing. Unfortunately, the number of places where you can do that, you know removing your clothes, is limited by state and local legislation.

I guess for every activity there is a time and place and if one of the activities that you enjoy is being at one with nature without the benefit of clothing then there are some special days approaching. National Nude Recreation Week has been announced for July 10th through the 23rd and it's exactly what you think it is.

It might come as a shock to you but folks have been going without clothes for quite a while. Even when the more conservative approach to proper attire came into being there were still some who enjoyed the feeling of being naked with nature. That culture gave rise to the naturalist movement of the 60s and 70s.

The first "Nude Weekend" actually took place in Cape Cod at the National Seashore there in 1974. The head of the seashore announced there would be a ban on all nude bathing. Well, that prompted more people to show up naked. Local law enforcement opted to not make any arrests since there were thousands of bathers and only so much room in the surrounding jails.

The fact that the weekend turned out to be trouble-free prompted organizers to plan the next one. Soon, other beaches and resorts across the country were holding their own events. Eventually, the week after July 4th was agreed upon as the time frame when National Nude Recreation Week would be held.

The Naturists Directory lists three clothing-optional resorts. However, the resort that has been around the longest is Indian Hills Family Nudist Park. It's in Slidell and it offers a lot of amenities of a regular campground and outdoor resort.

Indian Hills also appears to offer more group activities. There is Naked Karaoke on Friday nights, Healing Yoga on Sundays, and always a group party on Saturday night too. Now, if you're thinking those who enjoy nude camping and those who follow the "life of the pineapple" are the same thing you'd be wrong. Nudists are more about chilling and being at one with nature. The pineapple group appears to be more interested in being at one with everybody. But to each his own.
