The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is starting the new year off by offering citizens a chance to teach our youth about the beauty of the outdoors in our state. If you were looking for an opportunity to serve your community, there really is nothing better than pointing impressionable youngsters in the right direction.

According to Louisiana Weekend, the free seminars from Wildlife and Fisheries will be given throughout the state for adults who would like to become youth fishing instructors. The seminars are in several different locations and will be held from January through March. The name of the program is called Aquatic Volunteer Instructor Workshop, or Aquatic VIP, and according to the department website, it's "a great opportunity for anyone interested in sharing their passion for Louisiana’s aquatic resources."

The seminars will train future instructors through hands-on workshops on topics that include "knot tying, basic tackle, casting techniques, fish identification, fish anatomy, invasive species, fisheries management, and fishing safety". This valuable information can be used by scout leaders, teachers, or other youth instructors at everything from fishing benefits to assisting Wildlife and Fisheries at their many events across the state. You can register online in advance here, but LDWF is also saying that if you can't make any of the upcoming seminars, you can schedule a private workshop in your area where they come to you, and a group, who are interested.

The five hour workshops will follow all CDC safety guidelines and will be offered at the locations below. Thanks to Louisiana Weekend for the info
