Your Snooze Button Is Making You Feel Groggy This Holiday Season
Ok it's not the button itself, but you hitting that button.
Sleep is good isn't it? I consider myself an Olympic sleeper because I can doze off just about anywhere, including at a NASCAR race. Come on, sitting on those bleachers, tummy full of carbs and that warm sun on your back... It was easy to drift off with my head resting in my hands. You would have done the same.
With that being said, I think it's obvious that I love sleep and take it seriously. I have a bedtime and I get up at the same time each day, even on weekends. And you thought I was crazy before with that NASCAR comment.
For those who don't pop out of bed when that alarm goes off, you might find that you are more exhausted throughout the day. There's a reason for that. According to a sleep doctor named Daniel Barone, snoozing can mess with your brain which can leave you feeling groggy and almost hungover.
Essentially it has to do with your brain producing the hormone serotonin. When you fall asleep it feels good because of this hormone. Obviously, no one would sleep if it hurt or felt bad. When you allow yourself to go back to sleep after your alarm sounds your brain becomes confused, even if it's just for five minutes.
Dr. Barone says that the process of waking up takes about an hour. So when you give yourself a false start once or repeatedly, you're going to feel the effects of that throughout the day. I believe this can also make it more difficult for you to go to bed a decent hour at the end of the day which just creates a sleepless domino effect in the long run.
Did you know that you can set an alarm through our mobile app? We think that will make it a lot easier to get out of bed in the morning. Oh, and our app is free to download.
