Adidas Confirms Partnership with Kanye West
A statement from Adidas welcomed Yeezy to the company and looking forward to creating a new chapter with the mercurial artist.
The full statement reads:
For 2014, we welcome to the adidas family one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation, Kanye West. Well known for breaking boundaries across music, film and design and partnering with our history in street wear culture and leading innovations in sport, we look forward to creating a new chapter. Details to follow.”
Although the details of the pact weren’t disclosed, it’s rumored that West’s Adidas deal is worth $10 million.
‘Ye’s new partnership ends his fruitful collaboration with Nike. During West’s run with the sneaker giant, he created the popular Air Yeezy and Air Yeezy II sneaker collection. The latter kicks were so in-demand when they dropped in June 2012 that someone actually bought a pair for $90,000 on eBay.
West was supposed to released the highly anticipated Red October Air Yeezys in October, but sadly, that didn’t happened.
This caused the G.O.O.D. Music leader to go on a nationwide rant against Nike and its CEO Mark Parker on his Yeezus Tour.
“Do you know who the head of Nike is?” he asked the crowd at his Nashville stop. “No, well let me tell you who he is: His name is Mark Parker, and he just lost culture. Everyone at Nike, everyone at Nike, Mark Parker just let go of culture.”
We congratulate Kanye West on his new venture with Adidas.
