With all the rain that's been happening this week this turtle made its way out of Cypress lake and into a classroom.

According to the University of Lafayette, Dr. Brad Moon a professor of biology said students found the turtle and was taken to Wharton Hall. There they found out that the snapping turtle is about 30-50 years old.

The massive turtle weighed over 50 pounds and measured 30 inches long and 16 inches wide.  Dr. Moon Said,

“In all the 15 years I’ve been teaching, we’ve never had the opportunity to see one up close like that,”

For now they put it back into the Cypress Lake on the UL Campus, but the doctor strongly suggested that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries place it in a safer environment.
