Money may not grow on trees, but sometimes it accidentally falls out of armored trucks—and when one truck lost a bag of money, motorists scrambled for the cash.

Police say a door lock on an armored truck malfunctioned, causing the door to open and a bag of cash to spill out onto the interstate early Friday morning.

It should come as no surprise that motorists almost instantly hopped out of their vehicles, making a dash for the money.

The armored car's driver told police he pulled over as quickly as he could, but by the time he was stopped, he said he saw several vehicles that were stopped on the highway, and people were picking up the cash.

People continued to scoop up the loose bills until emergency vehicles arrived with their lights on. Its still unclear as to exactly how much money was in the truck to begin with, but once all was said and done police were able to recover just over $200.

Maryland Police are asking drivers who picked up any cash to turn it back in, saying that if they do not return the money they took from the highway they "could face theft charges if the continuing investigation leads to their identity."

Good luck with that.
